Transition Complete

Posted by WebCudgel | 1 Comment

The move from one laptop to two laptops has been completed for the most part. Her new laptop has all of her old files on it and most of the software is installed. In fact, she installed all of the games she wanted on her laptop all on her own.

So far, it seems we got most everything over to her laptop and so the old laptop has been completely wiped. For my first experience with resintalling the original CDs to bring it back to day one status, it was very smooth and painless. Once the reinstallation was complete, I removed all of the applications I no longer use. Lotus SmartSuite is replaced by OpenOffice, Outlook Express is replaced with Mozilla Thunderbird, Mozilla Firefox is brought in for all my browsing needs (with Internet Explorer only used for websites that require it and when I need to text my web development in the two most popular browsers), PSPad brought in for my web development needs (much preferred now over Textpad; thanks Russell).

After all of that, I also had to go through doing the Windows Updates including SP2. That meant I was up until 3:30am last night. I’m tired. :)

So now, I’m typing this while watching my favorite cable channel, HGTV and enjoying the freedom of sitting in a chair more relaxed than sitting in a desk that only reminds me of my office desk. Eventually I’ll be doing some of my typing tasks from a relaxing couch or sitting up in bed. Which is exactly what I wanted in having a laptop. :)

That and my wife loves her new laptop so much that she gave me the USB keyboard because it is easier for her to type on the new larger keyboard than this one (and I agree, which is why I’m typing this with that smae keyboard).

  1. The Wife Says:

Well, I didn’t really give him the keyboard, but I did say that I didn’t think I needed it
anymore since the new laptop keyboard is so comfortable! 8-)
