Nothing like starting over…

There are many unique industrial idiosyncracies inherent in starting a new job. Each company is different and you find yourself wishing some places gave orientations for contract workers. At least I would have known that I need to get a parking permit instead of receiving a warning slip on my windshield (only one warning, after that, it gets towed).

Contract employees don’t get taken out to lunch on their first day (yeah, I should have already known that… just never occurred to me until I’m on the receiving end of it). The pay will be nice for a while, but just like last year, it really screws up your taxes… I’m not looking forward to figuring them up for last year.

I now get emails from people I’ve not met yet… and when I ask them what the purpose of the email is to be sure I actually need it, the only response is “okay, I’ll make sure you get it from now on”. I wish some people would read an email.

Overall, it was an interesting day and I feel as if I have just jumped into the kiddie pool and found it 200 ft deep. I like a challenge.

As a bonus, Amy and I treated ourselves to a wonderful dinner to celebrate my new job. We went to Kobe Steaks Japanese Restaurant and enjoyed ourselves immensely. In the end, that meal only cost us $10 as we used the gift certificate I had received from J-Quad this past December. Mmmm… sweet revenge. *burp*
