LifeGoals
Last night, my wife and I completed viewing the DVD extras for all three Lord of the Rings movies (this was over a few weeks as fitting in 3-4 hours at a time for 6 total DVDs is rather difficult). I could never before fathom the complexity of everything that goes into making these movies. It was astounding, awe-inspiring and quite humbling to see what one man’s vision could become when given the right tools and the right people.
At first I was going to write of my despair at having not made any sort of major accomplishment in my life by this time. It was a very depressing “what’s wrong with me?” type of post that I just erased (except for the very first sentence). After all, I came to a realization that he DIDN’T do that on a whim. It was a goal he had set for himself and intended to fulfill at some point in time. It didn’t happen overnight as he had many years of other experiences to draw upon and coalesce into what became these three movies. He did it and did it quite well at that.
It occurred to me that I need to set down some goals that I would love/need to accomplish in my life. I have so many interests that it will be a very chaotic list. However, I will not post it just yet until I have most of it written down. The first step in Getting Things Done is to write down what you want to do; even if you don’t ever do it, it’s off that mental stack of stuff that is constantly nagging at you to get sorted at the back of your mind. (However, unlike GTD, I will be putting some of these major goals in a list form in addition to individual pieces of paper.)
I’ll eventually post my list on this website as a link in the menu. I plan on doing as Wil Wheaton has done and scratch off those items as they are completed. I also feel that putting them out there for all of you to see will give me an extra push to actually do something about them; I don’t want to see that list remain stagnant as I’m sure none of you do either.
As I was posting this, I was listening to the soundtrack from LOTR: The Return of the King and heard “The Song of the Steward”…
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadow, to the edge of night
Until the stars are all alight
Mist and shadow, cloud and shade
All shall fade, all shall… fade
Yeah, that’s a good summary of my thoughts right now…
