Daily Journey Entry

FINALLY!  We actually got up early enough to go work out.

Food:

  • Breakfast (5:35am) - raisin bran w/ skim milk, whole wheat english muffin w/ peanut butter.
  • Post-run (7:45am) - whey protein shake.
  • Snack (9:30am) - banana.
  • Lunch (12:30pm) - other half of last night’s Subway sandwich, 1/2 cup carrots, pear, last of Mini Pringles (5pt).
  • Snack (5:30pm) - WW Fruit & Nutty bar (2pt).
  • Dinner (7:30pm) - 1.5 cups leftover pasta, salad w/ salad spritzer, handful of Triskets w/ hummus, handful of Ritz crackers w/ veggie cream cheese, carrot salad, small dark chocolate piece.

Exercise:

  • 6:30am - 3.8 mile run in 45:42.98 for a total of 885 calories burned and a max BPM of 161.  It was pretty hard today.  I had to keep arguing with myself to keep going until my usual landmarks for walking breaks.  Sometimes I take breaks at the landmark, other times I don’t need them… today I needed them.  So I took three breaks (2 30-sec break and 1 60-sec break).  I still did pretty good time averaging about 12 min per mile.  I need to work on ramping it up though if I’m going to beat my previous 5K time.

State of Mind:

  • Content.  I felt better about doing the run and sticking to the War on Sugar (with the exception of the snack bar and the dark chocolate piece).  The carrot salad was naturally sweetened by the carrots, raisins and coconut.  Overall, it was better than the last few days, but I know it can be even better tomorrow…

Tomorrow:

  • Take more snacks.  Now this sounds like a bad thing, but by snacks, I mean core foods like extra carrot or celery sticks and extra fruit.  Since I decided to declare war on sugar, my current snacks will have to just sit in my desk drawer or go to a co-worker of mine who forgets his lunch once in a while.
  • I have not decided on my exercise for tomorrow.  I may look into the pushups challenge or even this other post to reduce love handles and strengthen my abs (though the pushups will definitely do the latter).

Notes:

  • The Carrot salad makes for an excellent dessert in the place of just a piece of fruit.  This one was from the Joy of Cooking cookbook, but with coconut inserted in the place of pecans (we didn’t have any).  I told Amy this evening that it would be even better with some drained crushed pineapple.
