80 Different Directions

At least that is what it feels like when I consider all I’ve got going on and everything that has been happening these last few weeks. Here’s just a quick run-down of what I’m doing:

  • Work has been interesting since a deadline got foisted upon our department resulting in almost all of my duties being put on hold so that I could jump into the website development that must be ready in just a week. This means I’m doing SQL and ASP work instead of just the usual SQL development. Kinda exciting as it does allow me to list both on my resume even though the focus is on SQL (which has been the case for the last 6 jobs).
  • A friend of mine from Ibertech/Aloha/Radiant has recruited me for development of the user interface for the re-release (and the change of business focus) of his website. This has taken some of my personal time in order to complete this. It finally pushed me to get my old laptop off the other desk behind me and take it to work so I can develop some of the code for this new website during my lunch break while at an Internet cafe only a block from my work. I went there for the first time this week and it’s just like a Starbucks in some of the selection (but mostly price) and they have FREE wi-fi (versus the expensive option at SB). The additional bonus is that it is very quiet which is very much NOT like a usual Starbucks.
  • I also have a personal project I’ve started and will post more later once I feel I have a good foundation setup on it. It may be a means of generating a little revenue for myself while providing worthwhile information and advice. That’s all I’ll say for now. I gotta sell more stuff on eBay first to get the financial goods to get this one going.
  • Church stuff has also kept me busy. I speak twice a month which takes up some time to prepare. The website for the group has kinda stagnated at this point and I’m in the middle of a revamp of the website (however, like all my stuff, I’ve procrastinated or put it off for “more important” projects). Just another time-allocation to work in real soon.
  • I also meet once a month with a group of friends who all constitute current/previous employees of a Ibertech/Aloha/Radiant and we play role-playing games. This last gathering in March was our first session using Shadowrun role-playing rules. A huge learning curve for all of us and also a time-suck in understanding the rules, creating the character(s) and comprehending the abilities of the created characters. More time for that will have to be made much later to allow the other projects above take the forefront.
  • Oh, yeah, and trying to get this house ready in some fashion to sell so Amy and I can move closer to work. Still need to get the foundation inspected and both our vehicles having been in the shop so far this year (her’s twice) has set us back financially and also prevented us from scheduling the inspection with only having one car.

There’s more, but I gotta go as I’m now on Skype with the friend who has asked me to work on his website.

BTW, if you want to add me to your Skype list, just lookup my nick, WebCudgel. Would love to talk to some of my readers once in a while. :) Laters.
